Relevant Person’s Representative in the North West

Relevant Person’s Representative (RPR) in the North West

ICANN can provide independent advocates to be an RPR to someone who lives in the North West and is under a Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and who does not have family or friends who can fulfil this role.

As an independent advocacy organisation, our experienced advocates can carry out a range of tasks which ensure that the DoLS in place is in the best interests of the person whom it concerns.

What we can do

  • Visit the person regularly and ask them about their views and wishes
  • Help the person to exercise their rights if they want to e.g. support the person to make an application to the Court of Protection to get the authorisation changed or ended
  • Request a review of the authorisation
  • Talk to the person to help them understand their rights under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and what the authorisation means and how it affects them.
  • Check that the care setting is keeping to the conditions of the authorisation
